Economy Relations Development. Meeting at the Diplomatic Club.
October 24th, the Club held the meeting with Nikolay Mezhevich, PhD of Economic Sciences, Professor of the Department of European Studies at the Faculty of International Relations, Saint-Petersburg State University.N.Mezhevich spoke about the current state and prospects of economic development of the Eastern part of the Baltic Sea in the context of cooperation with Russia, on the existence of models on economic relations.
The issues of cross-border cooperation, the development of transport, railway services, transit, and ports were discussed as well as areas of possible cooperation in the energy sector.
N. Mezhevich also noted great importance for the economy of the Baltic countries has membership in the EU. If we compare on the level of the Baltic States what they paid into the EU budget and the amount received from the EU in the period from 2000 to 2011. More successful of all the money in circulation has taken Lithuania, with each paid into the EU budget euro regain the 4.4 euro, Latvia 3, 7 euros and Estonia 3.4 euro.
«In modern times, it would be logical to our neighbors, the focus on the real economic cooperation with Russia, creating a climate of confidence in the existing corridor of opportunities», said N.Mezhevich.
