Reception at the Czech Republic Embassy
October 27, on the occasion of the National Day of the Czech Republic Czech Embassy in Latvia organized a reception which was held in the Small Guild Hall in the Old Riga.
The Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Mr. Tomāš Pštross welcomed guests of the reception.
On October 28 Czech Republic celebrates its main Holiday day of formation of an independent Czechoslovak republic. Earlier, this day was called the Republic Day.
After the First World War, on October 28, 1918, Czech national Committee proclaimed independence from Austro-Hungarian Empire and the unification of Czech and Slovakia into Czechoslovak Republic. Further development led to creation of independent Czech Republic on January 1, 1993. Nevertheless, the day of formation of the Czechoslovak republic remains one of the most important in history.
