On 29th of September in the Diplomatic Economic Club held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Netherlands in Latvia Pieter Jan Langenberg

Meeting with the Ambassador was opened by the Vice-President of the Club Andre Villiers.

«Economic relations between the Netherlands and the Baltic countries are quite active. In 2015, total Dutch exports to the Baltic countries amounted to 2027 million euros, including Lithuania 823 million euros, Estonia – 722 million Euro, Latvia – 482 million euros. Total Dutch imports from the Baltic countries amounted to 1704 million euros, including Lithuania 1044 million Euro, Estonia – 276 million euros, Latvia – 384 million euros.

The main products of export from Baltic countries to the Netherlands: wood and wood products; food; articles of metal.
The main products of imports from the Netherlands to the Baltic States: machinery and electrical equipment; food stuffs; chemical products.

The Netherlands is the 9th trade partner of Latvia with a turnover of 3 million euros and has a positive trade balance. In 2015, exports of Latvian goods to the Netherlands increased by 21% and imports by 1%. Dynamics of trade turnover between the countries is positive after the recession in 2008, there is a constant growth with stabilization at the same level in the last three years.

 

In Latvia registered 424 companies with Dutch capital total direct investment is 725,1 million euros, allowing the Netherlands to take third place in the ranking of foreign direct investment after Sweden and Cyprus.

 The Ambassador gives an example the history of successful investments in Latvia. Brabantia is a company created in 2008 in Latvia the enterprise for production of clothes dryers and ironing boards, which employs 75 workers.As well as a global logistics company Samskip Vandieren, which came to Latvia in 1997, today in the Latvian part of company employs 250 people.»
