100th anniversary of the Ukrainian diaspora in Latvia
The Ukrainian diaspora in Latvia celebrates it’s 100th anniversary.
On the 9th of July in the rest complex „Kolotilovka“ the Ukrainians of Latvia held the celebration of the Ivan Kupala Day on which the concert and traditional Slavonic festive ceremonies of the summer solstice day took a place.
The Kupala’s ceremonies includes: grass and flower gathering, garland braiding, building decorating with the greenery, fire kindling, man of straw burning, jumping over the bonfire, fortune-telling and etc.
The chairwoman of the union of Ukrainian Society’s in Latvia Ludmila Belintzeva let the right to open the festive ceremonies to the Ambassador of Ukraine in Latvia Anatoliy Oliynik
Numerous guests and participants of the celebration took part in competitions. Folk songs and singing sounded too.
The owner of the rest complex „Kolotilovka“ Nikolay Kolotilo obtained the recognition of absolute majority as the most cordial and hostpitable Ukrainian host of Latvia!
As an old tradition the Marena tree with the ribbons was prepared. Each could tied his ribbon to the tree, telling all the troubles , which he wants to get rid of. Afterwards the tree was thrown in the pond.
Ivan Kupala’s man of straw was burned till the end!
