Reception at the Japanese Embassy
On the occasion of birthday of the ruling Emperor of Japan Akihito Japanese Ambassador to Latvia Toshiyuki Taga held a reception on the 12th of December in the Small Guild house, Riga.
The ambassador discussed the development of trade and economic relations between Latvia and Japan, cooperation between Riga and Kobe, planned activities in order to strengthen the mutually beneficial relations. Ambassador wished the people of both countries success and prosperity.
The Emperor of Japan is a symbol of the nation and the representative of the worlds oldest imperial dynasty. In 1948, according to the law «On national holidays,» the Emperors birthday became a national holiday and a popular day off, which is celebrated in the country on December 23.History of the Emperors birthday celebrations in Japan dates back to the 8th century (approximately year 775)
