Reception of the Embassy of the Netherlands
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Latvia, Govert Jan Bijl de Vroe, and his wife Loes Bijl de Vroe held a reception on the occasion of the national holiday Kings Day on April 29.
The national anthems of the Netherlands and Latvia sounded «a capello» performed by the diplomatic choir.The Ambassador congratulated the guests on the holiday, wished them success and prosperity.
The tradition of this holiday begins in 1885, as the day of national unity, and then the holiday was renamed Queens Day. In 2014, Queen Beatrix transferred the rights in favor of her son Willem-Alexander, and to this day it is Kings Day
Kings Day is a nationwide holiday in the Netherlands. Every inhabitant on this day wears an orange outfit a symbol of the color of the royal house of Orange-Nassau.
